Is It Martiniville Or Margaritaville? Dispute Is Settled
A dispute has been settled between Jimmy Buffett and the Florida restaurant Martiniville Liquor Bar & Kitchen. The trademark dispute which Mr. Buffett has claimed infringed on his “Margaritaville” trademark has been settled but the actual terms of the settlement have not been fully revealed. Jimmy Buffett wrote his #1 hit song titled “Margaritaville” in 1977 and, since opening his first restaurant, in Key West in 1985, has been licensing restaurants and other merchandise using the trademark ever since. According to the HollywoodReporter.com, the owners of the previously named Martiniville Liquor Bar & Kitchen have since changed the restaurant’s name to the Martini Bistro. I guess realizing that the threat of a $750,000 payout was probably “not worth the risk.”
